Marine Le Pen expresses her regrets after the death of her father in

Marine Le Pen, president of the National Rally (RN) group in the National Assembly in , expressed for the first time her feelings after the death of her father, Jean-Marie Le Pen. In an interview with the Journal du Dimanche, she expressed her regret at having excluded the latter from the National Front (FN) which he had co-founded.

Marine Le Pen said: “I will never forgive myself for this decision, because I know it caused him immense pain.” She said the decision was one of the hardest of her life, wondering if she could have done things differently.

In 2015, Marine Le Pen effectively stripped her father of his title of “honorary president” of the FN. This decision followed controversial comments by Jean-Marie Le Pen on the German Occupation, made four years after his succession at the head of the party which became the National Rally.

She also admitted that her father had been involved in many verbal arguments. However, Marine Le Pen felt that it would be “unfair to judge him solely” on these statements, although she regrets that her father got “trapped in these provocations”.

Marine Le Pen also criticized President Emmanuel Macron for his press release following the death of Jean-Marie Le Pen. According to her, History will harshly judge Macron and his lack of action during his mandate.

Jean-Marie Le Pen died on January 7 at the age of 96, surrounded by his loved ones. His death was widely commented on in the media in France, illustrating his stature as a divisive figure. His often controversial statements have repeatedly led to legal proceedings. His funeral took place in La Trinité-sur-Mer, his hometown, on January 11.
