German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called again on Saturday “all countries, whether in the east or in the west”respect for international borders, emphasizing that“no country is another’s backyard”.
“The principle of the inviolability of borders applies to all countries, whether they are in the east or the west (…) whether it is a small country or a a very large and very powerful country”declared Chancellor Olaf Scholz before his Social Democratic Party (SPD) in Berlin, a few days before the inauguration of Donald Trump.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) directly warned the Republican billionaire this week after his threatening statements on Greenland, Panama and Canada.
The reference to Donald Trump’s expansionist aims was transparent on Saturday, even if he did not mention the name of the future American president. He also denounced “Russia’s merciless war of aggression” against Ukraine.
“The inviolability of borders is a central principle of international law. No country is another’s backyard. No small country should have to fear its big neighbors. This is at the heart of what we call Western values.said the German leader who spoke at an SPD congress in Berlin organized in view of the legislative elections on February 23 in Germany.
