Building on recent successes such as the Salone Civic Festival and significant international funding, Sierra Leone intends to capitalize on these achievements to sustainably transform the economy and the living conditions of its citizens.
The Government of Sierra Leone is committed to making 2025 a year marked by bold reforms and concrete results, Dr David Moinina Sengeh, Chief of Staff to the President, said in a recent intervention.
Dr Sengeh highlighted the success of Salone Civic Festivalan event that brought together citizens and government officials to discuss the progress made and the challenges ahead. He also highlighted the efforts made by the government to attract foreign investments, citing in particular the significant funds obtained from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and other partners.
The MCC funding, which exceeds $1 billion, will be dedicated to improving access to electricity, a crucial step in attracting new investment and creating jobs. The chief of staff assured that these funds will be managed efficiently and transparently.
Among other successful initiatives, Dr Sengeh mentioned the British investment in the Miro company, located at Mile 91, which has generated numerous employment opportunities for young people in the region. In addition, the country has benefited from significant funds from the U.S. Development Finance Corporation (DFC), which will have a direct impact on citizens through job creation through electricity infrastructure projects.
-The chief of staff also highlighted the significant progress made in stabilizing the economy, citing the improvement in the exchange rate and the increase in revenues from the tourism sector following the inauguration of the new airport.
Looking ahead to the year 2025, Dr Sengeh declared that this period would be dedicated to “delivery and bold action”. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to capitalize on the successes of the past year and implement policies that will sustainably improve the living conditions of all Sierra Leoneans.
