A few hours after the resignation of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Donald Trump estimated, Monday January 6, that it was in Canada's interest to become the “51st State” of the United States. “If Canada merged with the United States, there would be no customs duties, taxes would drop considerably and Canada would be TOTALLY SAFE from the threat of Russian and Chinese ships that constantly surround it”wrote the president-elect on his social network Truth, the day his victory in the presidential election was certified by the American Congress. “Together, what a great nation it would be!!!”he adds.

Donald Trump had already touted this idea in a previous message on Truth, on December 25, 2024. According to the American media Fox News, he even mentioned it at the end of November in front of Justin Trudeau, during a meeting at his residence in Mar-a -Lago (Florida) after his victory in the race for the White House.
