At the time of the countdown on December 31, a few seconds before midnight, Alan Roura’s head was upside down. Nothing to do with alcohol: “My team had set aside a small bottle of champagne for me, but I only had two sips.” The Geneva sailor is competing in his third Vendée Globe, a solo round-the-world trip, without stopovers or assistance.
