Sailing: the Romands of the Vendée Globe wish you a happy new year

There are no major upheavals in the Vendée Globe rankings. After 51 days of racing, the French Charlie Dalin (Macif Santé Prévoyance) and Yoann Richomme (Paprec Arkéa) still dominate the event and are very close to each other with less than 50 miles apart, Wednesday at 7 p.m. hours.

On the Swiss side, Vaudoise Justine Mettraux (Teamwork-Team Snef) is in 10th place, 1803 miles from Dalin, Geneva’s Alan Roura (Hublot) is 17th, 3861 miles from the lead and Zurich’s Oliver Heer (Tut Gut) remains 30th, 5774 miles from first.

The sailors have all spent the year alone aboard their boat, but they have not forgotten their fans, many of whom follow the race from land. With a photo or video, they greeted the new year in their own way.

Justine Mettraux entered this new year with two photos. In her message she wishes a happy new year and thanks Flo for the superb pink glasses.

She nevertheless specifies that “New Year’s Eve was not easy” due to difficult weather conditions. “The sea is rough, it hits a lot, it’s quite unpleasant. I couldn’t sleep much last night, so I’m a little tired, I’m going to go and rest before the wind comes in again,” she explains.

Alan Roura, for his part, created a party atmosphere in a video where we see him dressed as a Rasta, ready to blast the music and the champagne in his improvised disco.

He celebrated this passage with champagne, foie gras, and perhaps a fondue…

All the boats are on their way to the equator and we hope that the sailors will have recovered by the time they begin the ascent towards Les Sables d’Olonne.
