Russia has placed a high-resolution Earth remote sensing satellite into orbit from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, the Russian space agency Roscosmos announced on Wednesday.
« Today, at 10:45:376 Moscow time (GMT+3), specialists from the Roscosmos state corporation launched the Soyuz-2.1b rocket carrying the Resours-P earth remote sensing satellite from the 31st site of the Baikonur Cosmodrome“, according to a press release published on the official Roscosmos website.
The launch of the satellite into a given orbit and its separation from the third stage of the launcher took place as usual, said the same source.
This is the 17th Russian space launch in 2024 and the eighth from the Baikonur cosmodrome. This flight was the 74th for the Soyuz-2.1b launcher.
The Resours-P series satellites are designed for multispectral remote sensing of the Earth's surface to acquire high-quality visible images in real time. They are used to study natural resources, track pollution and environmental degradation, as well as monitor water protection and conservation areas.
These satellites are built by the Progress national research and production center (TsSKB), based in Samara, Russia. It is a modified version of the Iantar-4KS1 military reconnaissance satellite.
