Rachel Bendayan, first minister of Moroccan origin in Canada

Elected Member of Parliament for Outremont for the first time in 2019, then re-elected in 2021, Rachel Bendayan quickly established herself as an influential political figure. Before his appointment to the new Trudeau governmentshe held several key positions: Parliamentary Secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Tourism and Associate Minister of Finance, as well as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Small Business and International Trade.

His expertise is not limited to politics. For almost a decade, she was an international litigation and arbitration lawyer at the prestigious firm Norton Rose Fulbrightwhere she specialized in international commercial law. She also shared her knowledge as a lecturer at the Faculty of Law of theUniversity of Montreal. A graduate of McGill University, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Development Studies as well as a Bachelor of Civil Law and a Juris Doctor.

Originally from Morocco, Rachel Bendayan becomes the first Canadian from this country to join the federal government. His appointment marks a historic milestone for the representation of the Moroccan diaspora and illustrates the growing diversity within Canadian institutions.
