US military strikes Houthi targets in capital Sanaa

The American army continues its fight in Yemen against the Houthi rebels, allies of Iran and Hamas, and announced on Saturday December 21 that it had carried out strikes in the capital Sanaa.

The American army announced on Saturday December 21 that it had carried out strikes against Houthi military installations in the Yemeni capital Sanaa.

These strikes targeted “a missile storage facility and command center operated by the Iran-backed Houthis,” the US Middle East Military Command (Centcom) announced on X.

The army also claimed to have shot down, during this operation, several drones fired by the Houthis as well as cruise missiles over the Red Sea.

American forces carried out these strikes “to destabilize Houthi operations, such as attacks against US naval warships and cargo ships” in the region, the army statement said.

Houthis fire on Tel Aviv

The Houthis, who control large parts of Yemen, including Sanaa, regularly attack ships linked according to them to Israel, the United States or the United Kingdom in the Red Sea and in the Gulf of Aden, despite the strikes carried out by the American army, sometimes with the help of British forces.

The announcement of these American strikes comes after the firing of a missile on Tel Aviv, claimed by the Houthi rebels, which caused 16 minor injuries during the night from Friday to Saturday.

In Saana, an AFP correspondent reported hearing explosions on Saturday evening.

Since the start of the war triggered on October 7, 2023 by the unprecedented attack of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas on Israeli soil, the Houthis of Yemen, supported by Iran, have launched numerous attacks against Israel, which responded to several times.

They are part of what Iran calls the “axis of resistance”, which brings together other movements hostile to Israel, such as Hamas, Iraqi groups or Lebanese Hezbollah.
