ASAF Cameroon appoints Djaili Amal Amadou as goodwill ambassador | APAnews

This appointment is a continuation of his fight against gender-based violence.

Nearly one in two women in Cameroon report having suffered physical or sexual violence according to various studies and surveys. While gender-based violence still affects a large number of women, this emerging partnership between ASAF Cameroon and Djaili Amal Amadou will provide a concrete response to this problem.

A reinforced commitment against gender-based violence

Gender-based violence manifests itself in different forms: domestic violence, early marriage, female genital mutilation, sexual assault, human trafficking, as well as economic or psychological violence. Although progress is being observed in the fight against these scourges, more than one in five women living in sub-Saharan Africa (22%) have been victims of sexual assault before the age of 18, according to the United Nations Fund for children (UNICEF).

The announcement of the appointment of Djaïli Amadou Amal as goodwill ambassador aims to strengthen the impact of the actions of the ASAF Cameroon foundation in favor of disadvantaged women and children. Renowned author and committed activist, Djaïli Amadou Amal received the prestigious Prix Goncourt des Lycéens in 2020 for her book Les Impatientes, which addresses the issue of violence against women by highlighting often invisible realities.

This appointment is also a continuation of his personal struggles. “I am happy to collaborate with ASAF Cameroon and to be able to carry out these charitable actions in the areas of education, protection of children and mothers, as well as the autonomy and emancipation of women “, she said.

ASAF Cameroon: key player for community development

Founded in 2019 by entrepreneur and philanthropist Eran Moas, the ASAF Cameroon Foundation is committed to fighting exclusion and poverty, promoting child protection and supporting community development in Cameroon.

As part of this collaboration, ASAF Cameroon will provide financial support to the libraries created by Djaïli Amadou Amal in the cities of Maroua and Douala. An ambitious project to create a “Women’s House” is also being studied. This space will offer welcome and support to women victims of domestic violence, allowing them to rebuild their future in a secure environment.

“The choice of Madame Djaïli Amadou Amal was a natural choice. She is a national symbol of protecting women’s rights and promoting education. We hope that this collaboration will amplify the actions of ASAF Cameroun and help even more people in precarious situations,” declared Eran Moas, founder of the foundation.
