Parents of a 6-year-old child were prosecuted by Australian courts for negligence, deception and for fraudulently collecting tens of thousands of dollars.
This affair is shocking to say the least and arouses enormous indignation. Parents, residing in Adelaide, Australia, were prosecuted for passing off their 6-year-old child as having cancer and thus collecting money from a kitty, reports The Guardian.
“Heinous” acts
They are accused of criminal negligence and deception but also of having fraudulently collected nearly 60,000 Australian dollars in donations, that is to say almost 35,000 euros. More concretely, they staged their son, to make it appear that he had cancer.
“It is odious that people seek [soi-disant] to profit from their own greed and personal selfishness from a disease as insidious as cancer, which affects so many families in our community”said John DeCandia, Australian police officer.
It all started on November 26, when a report was made to the authorities. “It will be alleged that the defendants shaved their six-year-old’s head and eyebrows and placed him in a wheelchair with bandages to imitate a stereotactic radiotherapy treatment”detailed the police officer.
“Our investigation has confirmed that the child is not seeking treatment. We believe this unusual illness is causing significant and serious psychological harm to the child and his or her sibling.”
The couple is incarcerated. The father and mother, both aged 44, have been refused bail and are expected to appear in court in Australia at the end of the week.
