At the same time as Bassirou Diomaye Faye nominated African of the year, other eminent personalities should meet in Casablanca, the economic capital of Morocco, which will host the awards ceremony scheduled for February 27 and 28, 2025.
The President of Senegal, Bassirou Faye, was named African of the Year 2024 by African Leadership magazine (ALM), for “his leadership role in the service of African progress.” This distinction, announced in a press release received this Monday by APA, is the result of a rigorous selection process including public nominations, pre-selection by an editorial committee, and an online vote which mobilized a record number of participants across the continent and at beyond.
President Bassirou Faye shares this recognition with other major figures such as Malagasy President Andry Rajoelina, crowned African Political Leader of the Year, and João Lourenço, President of Angola, designated African Leader of Peace and security.
In his statement, Dr. Ken Giami, Editor-in-Chief of African Leadership, praised the outstanding contributions of the winners, calling their leadership “a positive force on the continent.”
“Every nominee is a winner, but these winners stood out for their unwavering commitment to moving Africa forward. We are proud to celebrate their impact,” he said.
For Bassirou Faye, this recognition confirms her vision and her efforts to propel Senegal as a model of development and regional integration.
The Senegalese president has recently strengthened his position on issues of economic empowerment and food security, areas hailed by the magazine as crucial to the continent’s progress.
The awards will be officially presented during the 14th annual edition of the African Leadership Personalities of the Year (POTY) ceremony, scheduled for February 27 and 28, 2025 in Casablanca, Morocco.
The event, which brings together public and private sector leaders each year, will be highlighted by high-level roundtables, presentations on investment opportunities, and networking sessions.
With more than 400 participants expected, this meeting stands out as a unique platform to celebrate pan-African leadership focused on solutions to the continent’s major challenges.
A prestigious list
Besides Bassirou Faye, other African figures were honored in different categories:
Robinah Nabbanja, Prime Minister of Uganda, co-winner in the African Woman Leader of the Year category.
Mandefro Nigussie, CEO of the Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Agency, recognized as a Leader in Agricultural Development.
Bridgette Motsepe-Radebe, South African entrepreneur, crowned Industrialist of the Year.
