Around 150 risks have been identified, ranging from natural disasters linked to global warming to geopolitical conflicts. “Recommendations will be issued in the event of a hybrid conflict. We are talking here about a conflict which would indirectly impact Belgium such as problems with the supply of gas and electricity, power outages, cyberattacks, etc.”adds Antoine Iseux.
Thus, the national crisis center has drawn up a series of recommendations on its website aimed at having an emergency kit at home in the event of a gas leak in a neighborhood, flooding, or armed conflict linked to to another country with an impact on Belgium.

The emergency kit must consist of a basic first aid kit (bandages, compresses, plasters, scissors, disinfectant, etc.), a bottle of water, a GSM charger or an external battery, copies of insurance contracts, a rechargeable flashlight if possible, a battery-powered radio, a lighter, a Swiss army knife and an evacuation checklist.
There is no question, however, of falling into psychosis or rushing into stocks of toilet paper like during the health crisis. “It is not on the agenda, as in the Scandinavian countries, to identify bunkers and shelters for the population but the population must be able to be autonomous and resilient in the event of an emergency.specifies Antoine Iseux.
Specific recommendations are also issued for housing the bare essentials in cars. “Bottles of water and non-perishable food (cereal bars), a first aid box and manual, jumper cables, a GPS or road maps, a European accident report form, fluorescent bibs for all passengers and a triangle of danger”specifies CNN.

In 2019, a Be-Ready program was presented in primary schools with different activities. “The goal is for everyone to know the usefulness of the 112 emergency number and the different risks we will face in the years to come. For example, not everyone is registered with Be-Alert even though this tool allows the population to be warned in the event of danger. This will be the objective of the campaign which will be launched in 2025 and which will alert the population to the new dangers.concludes Antoine Iseux.
