man electrocuted after hanging Christmas lights

An American worker was seriously injured this Wednesday following an electric shock received while hanging Christmas garlands on a tree. An investigation has been opened.

A tragic accident on the eve of Christmas. An American worker is between life and death after receiving an electric shock this Wednesday, November 27 in the morning, in Wellesley, Massachusetts. The victim was putting up Christmas lights, less than a month before the holiday.

The 22-year-old man was taken to hospital in critical condition. “He'll be very lucky if he survives. He took a big hit,” Wellesley police officer Tim Gover told NBC News.

An open investigation

The worker was using a pole to install the garlands but he hit a power line, which caused the shock.

“The pole he was using was approximately 10 meters long and it came close to or hit a main line which was only a few meters from the tree,” local police said.

When police arrived, they found the man unconscious and in cardiac arrest. An investigation was opened by the federal workplace safety agency, in conjunction with the Massachusetts police.
