Democrats’ net gain of two seats in the House

The Republicans would thus claim a total of 220 seats against 215 for the Democrats. However, given Matt Gaetz’s decision to vacate his seat and the upcoming resignations of Michael Waltz and Elise Stefanik, who will occupy positions within the Trump administration, they would begin the next session with a majority of just one seat .

Such a situation would obviously complicate life for Mike Johnson, if he is re-elected as Speaker of the House, at least until early April, the earliest time a special election can be held.
