(Keystone-ATS) This delegation, led by Ukrainian Defense Minister Roustem Umierov, will likely “share information on the deployment of North Korean troops in Russia,” the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported, citing anonymous sources.

She should also seek to convince Seoul to support the Ukrainian war effort against Russia by sending weapons to kyiv, according to the same source.

The trip of a Ukrainian delegation to South Korea comes against a backdrop of Pyongyang’s growing commitment to Moscow, including the deployment of North Korean forces on Russia’s side.

“Several stages”

This intensification of military cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow has pushed Seoul to change its arms policy, no longer ruling out delivering weapons directly to kyiv.

“Now, depending on the level of North Korean involvement, we will gradually adjust our support strategy in several stages,” Yoon said in early November.

The government of South Korea, a major arms exporter, had already said it was studying the possibility of sending weapons directly to kyiv. It has opposed it until now because of a long-standing national policy that prevents it from arming countries engaged in active conflicts.
