Generation after generation, albums Ernest and Celestine accompany the children. We find the same tenderness in this story of a little Santa Claus who, hanging from a parachute, lands in a field of snow under the stunned eye of a little girl, especially since the man, distraught, arrives empty-handed … Touched, the heroine asks her to wait and runs home to get her doll, which she gives to her. The character who fell from the sky leaves comforted after having made an appointment for the following year, same day, same time. This meeting, on December 24, is a great promise for a generous little girl and a tiny Santa Claus who is now less alone. Each reissue of a Gabrielle Vincent album is a joy. This one dates from 1994.

Jim the dog looks a bit like an old mop, but he is so endearing that he was adopted by Sir Cole, the director of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, where he lives. He performs small services there and walks around in complete freedom. With the holidays approaching, Sir Cole gets down to his traditional greeting card and entrusts Jim with the mission of delivering a copy to Queen Victoria… Of course, this anecdote is invented, but everything else is true. We learn it at the end of this delicious tale written by Emma Thompson and illustrated with lots of British humor by Axel Scheffler, the creator of Gruffalo.

“For a wonderful Christmas, pull up your straps.” Let’s do it and with each new page of this little book, let’s invent a new gesture that the little one to whom we read this story will repeat. With him, let’s also write the letter to Santa Claus, decorate the tree, make cookies, put on our slippers and watch through the window for the sleigh pulled by the reindeer to pass by. Very cute.
