The Sea Story cruise ship, which sank off the Egyptian coast on Mondaywas faced with strong waves in the Red Sea at the time of the accident, according to the region’s governor Amr Hanafi. Sixteen people are still missing, including a Swiss.
A large wave reportedly hit the ship, causing it to capsize. The Sea Story, which has several decks, is said to have capsized within minutes. Some passengers would not have had time to leave their cabins, explained Mr. Hanafi, who relies on the statements of the crew and the surviving tourists.
According to him, the ship presented no technical problems and had all the necessary authorizations. The governor also indicated that 16 of the 44 people on board are still missing.
Mid-afternoon Monday, the DFA told Keystone-ATS that two Swiss citizens were among the passengers. One of these people was able to be saved and is unhurt. The second is still missing.
