A 16-year-old high school student was taken into custody on charges of attempted murder on Monday, in Bourg-en-Bresse, in Ain (F). In the morning, he injured a student in his class with scissors in the face and arm. The victim was hospitalized.

The vital prognosis was not engaged, said prosecutor Karine Malara. “The investigation will have to determine the motive of the facts as well as the personality of the author” of the attack, an isolated foreign minor living in a home, she said.
The scissor blows were carried out following an argument which broke out before 10:00 a.m. in a second class at the Edgar Quinet high school for an unknown reason, according to the rectorate. Firefighters said they quickly intervened with the injured man, aged 15.
Students in the class receive specific support within the establishment, which remains open on Monday, according to a press release from the prefecture. The president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region Fabrice Pannekoucke (LR) and the rector of the academy announced that they would go there during the day.
The Edgar Quinet high school is located in the center of Bourg-en-Bresse. This public establishment has around 1,300 students.
