Iranian Nuclear: Joint Declaration From Western Powers Faced With Tehran's Intransigence

, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States today welcomed the adoption of a resolution by the IAEA Board of Governors regarding Iran's nuclear program. This joint statement highlights Iran's continued failure to provide necessary information regarding the presence of undeclared nuclear materials discovered at several sites.

The four countries insist that these issues are crucial to guaranteeing the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program. They recall that Iran is legally required, under its Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) safeguards agreement, to cooperate fully with the IAEA.

The new Council resolution calls on the Agency to produce a comprehensive and updated assessment summarizing its findings over five years of investigations. “We hope that Iran will take this opportunity between now and this report to finally provide the information and cooperation necessary to resolve these issues,” the statement said. The four Western powers express “grave concern” over Iran's November 22, 2024 announcement, indicating that instead of cooperating, Tehran plans to further expand its nuclear program “in a manner that has not no credible civil justification.” “If Iran does not cooperate, it will be important for the Council to remain engaged in the face of the challenge posed by its continued refusal to meet its NPT-related nuclear verification commitments, including for the credibility of the IAEA's global safeguards regime “, warn the signatories.

The four countries call on Iran to “return to the path of dialogue and cooperation with the Agency,” emphasizing the crucial importance of resolving these issues for regional and international stability.
