IHe shot him because he had soiled his 500-euro Versace sneakers: this was how the 17-year-old justified himself, who on 1is last November, took the life of Santo Romano, 19, in San Sebastiano al Vesuvio, near Naples. The victim had only come to calm the situation, and was not even the author of the stains.

On Wednesday, November 6, when the hearse arrived for the funeral at a church in a neighborhood on the outskirts of the city, classmates and the Santo Romano soccer team crowded around the white coffin. Without really knowing how to carry it, they were paralyzed by this respect inspired by the feeling of touching death so soon, at such a young age. “Dying for sneakers is unacceptable,” we repeated in the crowds as the crowd blocked traffic. The posters and T-shirts of dozens of crying teenagers hugging each other paid tribute to a good boy.
