Six leaders of European countries, including Frenchman Emmanuel Macron and German Olaf Scholz, agreed on Tuesday to support a second term for European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, AFP learned from a source on Tuesday close to the negotiations.
The leaders, from the European People’s Party (EPP, right), social democrats and liberals, also agreed, before the European summit on Thursday and Friday, for the former head of the Portuguese government Antonio Costa to become the new President of the European Council and that the head of the Estonian government Kaja Kallas becomes responsible for EU diplomacy, indicated the same source.
