Trump appoints his own lawyers to key Justice Department posts

To support the controversial Matt Gaetz, appointed Attorney General of the United States, President-elect Donald Trump has appointed three of his experienced lawyers who will defend him in his criminal cases.

Matt Gaetz, a former elected official from Florida, is a faithful Trumpist who is not sure of obtaining Senate confirmation, because he is, among other things, suspected of relations with a minor and had instigated, almost two years ago, the overthrow of the leader of the Republican majority of the House of Representatives.

Donald Trump thus promoted three of his personal lawyers – Todd Blanche, Emil Bove and John Sauer – as numbers two, three and four in the Department of Justice, the powerful federal judiciary which oversees prosecutors throughout the country.

MM. Blanche and Bove are known for having defended Donald Trump in the criminal trial on hidden payments to a former pornographic film actress, Stormy Daniels, which led to his historic conviction, on May 30, by the local courts of New York State.

This was unheard of for a former American president.

Todd Blanche, who also advises him in two other federal cases, was named deputy attorney general on Thursday. His colleague Emil Bove, who had also represented the Republican billionaire in New York and in instructions at the federal level, should be number 3 in the protocol order.

Above all, he will be interim number 2 while Todd Blanche goes before the Senate.

Finally, John Sauer, who successfully argued for presidential immunity before the Supreme Court, inherits the fourth-largest position at the Department of Justice. As solicitor general (or attorney general), he is expected to represent the U.S. executive branch before the nine justices who make up the high court.

Experienced lawyers

These three men are experienced lawyers who are well established.

Todd Blanche graduated from Brooklyn Law School in New York, while Emil Bove graduated from Georgetown University in the federal capital, Washington. John Sauer graduated from the very prestigious Harvard University and also studied at the famous British University of Oxford.

They have also been magistrates, federal prosecutors, including MM. Blanche and Bove in the powerful federal court in Manhattan, New York. Mr. Sauer served as solicitor general of Missouri.

Todd Blanche will be a central leader in the Department of Justice to repair a justice system that has been broken for too longaccording to Donald Trump, while Emil Bove will, according to the next president, alloweradicate corruption and crime.

In the Stormy Daniels affair, the pronouncement of the criminal sentence against Mr. Trump, 78 years old – possibly prison – continues to be postponed: from July to September, and now to November 26.

Based on the Supreme Court’s decision on presidential immunity, his lawyers challenge the legality of his conviction in New York and demand the final classification of the case due to his re-election on November 5.

Under enormous pressure, New York Judge Juan Merchan must rule on this request on November 19 and then decide whether a sentence should actually be imposed on the 26th.

MM. Blanche and Bove also represent their prestigious client in two federal cases investigated by a special prosecutor, Jack Smith.

Donald Trump is being prosecuted in Washington for his alleged attempts to invalidate the result of the 2020 presidential election and in Florida for leaving the White House with classified documents.

However, these two cases are in trouble and Prosecutor Smith should dismiss the charges because the Justice Department cannot prosecute a sitting president.

Donald Trump wants to exploit Justice to seek revenge of his Democratic opponents by making the department his own law firm [avec] his personal lawyersthundered Democratic Senator Dick Durbin, who will chair the Judiciary Committee of the upper house of Congress until January.
