War in Gaza: Hamas says it is ready for a ceasefire, and calls on Trump to “put pressure” on Israel

As Israeli strikes continue in the northern Gaza Strip and Lebanon, a senior Hamas official says the movement is ready for a ceasefire. “Hamas is ready to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip in case a ceasefire proposal is presented and on the condition that Israel respects it,” a member of its political bureau said , Bassem Naïm, calling on “the American administration and Trump to put pressure on the Israeli government to stop the aggression” in Gaza.

This announcement comes as Qatar announced, on November 9, the suspension of its mediation between Israel and Hamas which had dashed the last hopes of a truce agreement in the Gaza Strip and the release of Israeli hostages held in the Palestinian territory.

The gas Emirate, which has established itself since the start of the war as the regional mediator which houses on its territory the political office of the Palestinian Islamist movement and the most important American military base in the Middle East, had nevertheless relaunched new attempts negotiations in October. “Qatar will resume negotiations when the parties demonstrate willingness and seriousness,” Foreign Affairs spokesperson Majed Al Ansari explained in a statement.

Until now, Hamas has always rejected Israeli plans to maintain a presence in the Gaza Strip after a possible peace agreement, while the Jewish state, influenced by the right wing favorable to the resumption of the settlements, considers this presence essential for its security.
