‘Troubling’: Nearly 20 human skulls discovered in New Mexico home

A man is under the microscope of US authorities after they discovered nearly 20 human skulls at his New Mexico home last week.

It was the neighbor who raised the alarm when he observed the man making strange gestures, the Lea County Sheriff’s Office explained in a statement posted on Facebook on Tuesday.

On November 5, the neighbor was asked by Cecil Villanueva to take him by car. He made “alarming statements” and threw objects that “looked like human bones” into the vehicle.

After this “disturbing encounter” for the neighbor, the latter called 911 to report the event, according to the press release. Police began searching near Mr. Villanueva’s house and found bone fragments. These were indeed human bones, a pathologist confirmed.

The next day, authorities went to the residence with a search warrant. They found “10 to 20” human skulls during the two-day search.

The Office of the Medical Investigator confirmed that one of the skulls could be that of Angela McManes, a woman who had been missing since 2019. The Office, however, did not release further details.

Mr. Villanueva defended himself by saying that he bought the skulls on a website, an associated media outlet reported. CBS News. The authorities have begun checks to find out if the skulls are “real human skulls,” Michael Walker, Lea County undersheriff, told the American media.

The police did not say whether Mr. Villanueva was arrested. An investigation is underway.
