Despite the pleasantries between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, the transition is far from going “smoothly”

Donald Trump returned to the White House on Wednesday, for the first time since leaving as a pariah 4 years ago after encouraging the attack on the Capitol by his supporters. On the contrary, Joe Biden welcomed Donald Trump to the Oval Office. Journalists were able to immortalize this historic handshake between the two old adversaries. A key moment in the transition process which will end with the swearing-in of Donald Trump on January 20.

The president and his successor appeared side by side, in front of a fireplace. Was it intended to warm up the atmosphere? Or was it a metaphor for the heated words exchanged between the two rivals? “Good, Mr. President-elect and former president,” Joe Biden began sympathetically. “Thank you very much Joe,” replied Donald Trump. “Donald, congratulations,” continued the occupant of the Oval Office for another two months. He had long cherished the unreasonable hope of beating his predecessor again at the polls but was ultimately forced by his people to withdraw his candidacy in favor of his vice-president, Kamala Harris.
