ON VIDEO | Rescue in extremis: police extricate a driver from a vehicle plunged into a swimming pool

A Phoenix, Arizona driver who accidentally drove his car into a public swimming pool on Halloween was reportedly rescued at the last minute by police officers, who did not hesitate for a second before jumping into the water.

“The man told police he accidentally pressed the accelerator too hard. “Thanks to the officer’s quick and courageous response, the man’s life was saved,” the Phoenix Police Department said in sharing body camera footage on X, reported by the “New York Post.”

It was around 2 a.m. on Halloween that the driver allegedly made an accidental maneuver at the wheel of his vehicle, plunging it straight into the deep side of what appears to be a public swimming pool, according to the images.

Fortunately, a witness to the scene rushed to contact emergency services, according to the police force.

As soon as the two agents arrived on the scene, one of them rushed to remove his belt, before rushing onto the roof of the car with a metal bar to attack the window on the roof, in order to extricate the man from his unfortunate position, according to what his colleague’s body camera captured.

It was then that he allegedly grabbed the man, dressed in a yellow work vest, to pull him out through the roof of the car full of water, we can see.

“Come here, I’ve got you, I’ve got you,” the policeman says in the video.

They can then be heard making sure there is no one left in the vehicle.

The grateful man was reportedly taken to a hospital as a precaution.

It is not clear whether or not other factors may have played a role in the accident, the Post said.
