“In recent days, I have spoken three times with President-elect Donald Trump (…). We see the Iranian threat in all its aspects with one eye,” Benjamin Netanyahu declared during the weekly Council of Ministers, according to a press release from his office. The head of the Israeli government also claimed to have discussed with Donald Trump the “great opportunities available to Israel, in the area of ​​peace and its expansion”.

These conversations between the two men are “intended to further strengthen the strong alliance between Israel and the United States,” the statement said. The United States is Israel's main ally engaged in a military offensive against Palestinian Hamas and Lebanese Hezbollah, two Islamist movements supported by Iran.

During his previous term, Donald Trump made numerous gestures in favor of Israel, moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights and contributing to the normalization of ties between Israel and several Arab countries with the Abraham Accords.
