the photo of an inflatable doll with a Nazi logo posted by an elected official causes an outcry, he resigns

A German politician posted a controversial photo on social media, which has since been deleted. It showed an inflatable doll with a logo resembling that of the Nazi organization the SS.

A cliché that shocked. A local German elected official has resigned after the outcry sparked by a photo referencing a Nazi organization that he had published on the social network Facebook, Reuters reported on Saturday (November 9).

It showed an inflatable sex doll, a sliding knot around its neck, imitating a hanging. She wore a black sweater showing a skull and the words “St. Pauli”, named after the Hamburg-based football club.

On the front the words “Scheiss St Pauli” (shit St Pauli) were written, the two S's adopting the shape of the logo of the SS, one of the main Nazi organizations during the Third Reich. The photo was posted to a private Facebook group and has since been deleted.

A “worrying” signal for the club

FC St Pauli announced that it was considering filing a complaint against the elected official. According to The Athletic, Oldenberg's prosecutor confirmed having received the complaint, but the opening of an investigation had not yet been confirmed as of Friday.

“Slogans can be inflammatory and should therefore be taken very seriously,” club president Oke Gottlich said in a statement.

“That a local politician, from a Democratic party, publishes such a photo is worrying and demonstrates a clear brutalization of political discourse,” lamented club spokesperson Patrick Gensing to The Athletic.

“A mistake”, according to the elected official

Bulent Buyukbayram, 50, was an elected official from the Christian Democratic Party (CDU) in Delmenhorst, near Bremen, in north-west Germany.

“It was stupid, it was a mistake,” he admitted, returning to this affair with Bild magazine.

“I withdrew from public space and I apologized to St Pauli,” assured the elected official, specifying that he had received “serious threats” since the publication of the photo. A local CDU official announced that Bulent Buyukbayram was now “no longer a member” of the party.
