Floods in Spain: 93 people still missing

In the Valencia region, flooding caused by bad weather represents a heavy human toll. Especially since 93 people are still missing.

In the Valencia region of Spain, searches are in full swing to try to find people swept away by the violent floods which devastated the south-east of the country last week. Report from Torrent, near Valencia.

A week after the bad weather which ravaged the south-east of Spain, the Valencia region is still littered with debris. In this devastated environment, it is very difficult to find the missing. Enrique Rosa is one of those who searches tirelessly. His parents, Carmen and Manuel, were swept away by the waters before his eyes: “I have to find them, at all costs”he gets excited.

If there is no longer any hope of finding the couple alive, it is impossible for their son to stand by and do nothing. Enrique has been looking for nine days. With his brother, they only hope for one thing, to one day be able to find their parents. The search area measures several square kilometers. Dozens of volunteers, a helicopter and even search dogs were mobilized.

But these means seem insufficient, because the Valencian town of Torrent has others missing: Izan and Rubén, two young children, whose disappearance shocked Spain. There are officially 93 missing. Some of them may be among the 54 bodies found.
