The authorities are heavily criticized for their lack of responsiveness in managing the crisis.
The visit this Sunday, November 3, of King Felipe VI of Spain and Queen Letizia to the scene of the deadly floods in the Valencia region has been suspended, national television announced.
The decision was taken after the scenes of chaos, close to the riot, which took place during the first stop of this visit, in Paiporta, in the suburbs of Valencia, where a furious crowd insulted the socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and the right-wing regional president Carlos Mázon, throwing various objects and mud at them.

The residents of Paiporta insulted the delegation by shouting “Assassins” and booing the king who received mud as well as Queen Letizia, despite their security agents who displayed umbrellas. The procession then separated with Pedro Sanchez on one side, the king and Carlos Mazon on the other.
The king nevertheless pushed through the crowd amidst the cries and was then able to chat with a few people.
The official procession remained blocked for a few minutes with a security device surrounding the angry residents. The crowd demanded the resignation of the Valencian president amid high tensions in the street with security forces on horseback.
