In an interview with the weekly Le Point, the Minister of Foreign Affairs made a point of sending messages to Algeria, especially after the cascade of Algerian reactions to Emmanuel Macron’s visit to the kingdom in the media and on the social networks.
“Morocco does not intervene in the relations that other countries maintain with Algeria. We focus exclusively on our bilateral relations with our partners, leaving each country free to develop the links it wishes with Algeria. This position is a clear and constant doctrine of His Majesty the King.”

“If Algeria perceives the strengthening of our relations with countries as a threat, this is up to its interpretation (…) Our priority is to advance our relations in accordance with our own interests,” said the head of diplomacy.
For the record, Algeria withdrew its ambassador to France in response to the recognition, on July 30, by President Emmanuel Macron of the Moroccan nature of the Sahara. A decision which is reminiscent of that taken by Algiers, on the orders of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the day after the announcement, on March 18, 2022, of the support of the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, for the Moroccan autonomy plan for Sahara.
