“I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump and I won the vote of normal gays, simply because they just want to be left alone,” he says in the most recent episode of the podcast The Joe Rogan Experience, who has 17 million YouTube subscribers.
A poll carried out in August by the Human Rights Campaign, however, reveals that 74% of American voters from the LGBTQ+ community will vote for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, compared to 7.5% for Donald Trump.
During the three-hour interview, JD Vance and Joe Rogan discussed a range of topics, including the “religious influence” of people of the Muslim faith and the Republican’s love of the series Emily in Paris.
The trans issue, however, monopolized a good part of the show.
JD Vance notably compared gender-affirming care to “pharmaceutical conversion therapy” for gay people.
“Every day my child comes to me to tell me something crazy,” he says. “For example, my 4-year-old son may say to me, ‘Daddy, I’m a dinosaur, aren’t I?’ Am I going to have to take him to the dinosaur transition clinic and put scales on him?” asked the elected Republican.

In Vance’s eyes, well-heeled parents who support a trans or non-binary child do so to “reject their white privilege.”
