In 1860, under the leadership of Garibaldi, a corps of volunteers landed in Sicily. A hazardous expedition, an important step towards the unity of Italy. Among these “Thousand”, only one woman, Rosalie Montmasson (1823-1904). Wife of Francesco Crispi, one of the organizers of the expedition, an activist from the start, she fought with the revolutionaries and treated the wounded. Mazzini and Garibaldi hold her in great esteem. Then, she falls into oblivion.
Philosophy professor and writer, Sicilian Maria Attanasio is passionate about bringing hidden female figures back to life. She devotes books to them that are part of historical investigation. And she fills the gaps in the archives with plausible romantic flesh, with enthusiasm and talent.
