On the move with Bruno Retailleau, Michel Barnier advances his pawns on immigration

After a brief, but essential, visit organized at the start to the Operational Center for Interministerial Crisis Management, to mark their “solidarity” with the victims of bad weather, Michel Barnier and Bruno Retailleau crossed the Franco-Italian border on foot, this Friday 18 october. A few meters on a road between sea and mountains, from the Police and Customs Cooperation Center in Ponte San Ludovico, located in Ventimiglia (Italy), an emblematic place of passage for migrants. A cliché, serving a message on the immigration issue: “We must go further at the European level and through national measures,” says the Prime Minister.

A trip maintained despite the tragedy of the floods, therefore. And politically loaded with meaning, while the right-wing Minister of the Interior pushes the fires to the maximum, even if it means angering some of his colleagues in the government and the majority. Especially since in (Alpes-Maritimes), the tenants of Beauvau and Matignon found Antonio Tajani (Foreign Affairs) and Matteo Piantedosi (Interior), two ministers of the Italian government associating the right and the extreme right, with force of warm hugs and declarations aimed at marking convergences of views.
