watch out for this new scam that is spreading

A new scam technique in supermarkets is increasingly present in Spanish Catalonia, particularly on the French border. The local police are warning about this phenomenon.

Between attractive prices and the opportunity to take a little tourist getaway, the supermarkets and hypermarkets located in Spanish Catalonia attract a number of French customers.

This is particularly the case of the Gran Jonquera shopping center, located a stone’s throw from Perthus.

But the place, like others in the surrounding area, has for some time been the scene of a strange act.

It is therefore since this weekend, a day of high attendance at this center, that the Mossos d’esquadra, the Catalan police, have decided to issue a warning about a new theft technique, as reported by the Independent, called “theft harvest”.

The principle is rather simple. Thieves wait until customers have filled their car trunk with goods before hailing them to tell them that they have supposedly dropped something: keys, phone or papers.

Meanwhile, an accomplice breaks into the customer’s vehicle through the passenger door with the aim of stealing everything he can get his hands on.

local authorities on alert

The Mossos have made an explanatory video available on the social network X, allowing you to concretely understand how this practice works.

According to Mossos d’esquadra, a woman recently had her phone stolen in this way.

Local authorities are therefore calling on supermarket customers to be vigilant and not to be distracted by strangers.

It is therefore highly recommended to pay particular attention to your personal belongings when shopping.
