Digital transformation: Ivory Coast and Guinea commit to collaborating

ICT is at the heart of digital transformation, which has become a major priority for many African governments. In order to achieve their objectives more quickly, States are relying on partnerships and mutual collaborations.

Ivory Coast and Guinea are joining forces to accelerate their respective digital transformation. On Friday October 11 in Conakry, two memorandums of understanding were signed between the Ivorian Minister of Digital Transition and Digitalization, Kalil Konaté (photo, left), and the Guinean Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and the Economy digital, Rose Pola Pricemou (photo, right).

« This agreement, the result of in-depth negotiations, aims to strengthen cooperation and pool expertise in several strategic digital sectors, notably fiber optic interconnection, collaboration in postal services and sharing of skills in telecommunications. and digital technologies », Declared Guinea in an official press release.

In addition to the physical interconnection of infrastructures, the agreement provides for the development of innovative digital services, the strengthening of cybersecurity and the promotion of digital inclusion. Pilot projects are planned in the areas of smart agriculture, digital health and online education.

This initiative is part of a regional context marked by the desire to deepen digital integration in West Africa, with the ambition of creating a single digital market. It supports the modernization efforts of the two countries in all sectors of activity, while promoting the construction of efficient telecommunications infrastructures and the improvement of digital services.

This cooperation should help improve the quality and coverage of connectivity services in both countries. According to the latest official data, Guinea has 13.4 million mobile telephone subscribers and 7.7 million Internet subscribers for a population of around 15 million inhabitants. In Ivory Coast, the penetration rate of mobile telephony stands at 172.2%, while that of the Internet reaches 93.7%, according to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (ARTCI).
