Document final

The final document of a synod is the fruit of the reflection of its members. Composed of numbered paragraphs, it is prepared throughout the Roman session by special secretaries who assist the general rapporteur with the help of experts. A commission made up of members of the Synod supervises its design and must approve a first version before presentation to the assembly. Individual or collective amendments are then formulated with the aim of modifying, completing, adding or deleting paragraphs. To be validated, they must obtain a two-thirds majority of the votes. The document is given to the Pope who is free to take up or not in a possible post-synodal apostolic exhortation the elements of this synthesis. If expressly approved by the Roman pontiff, the final document is part of the ordinary Magisterium of the Pope.
