EDWY PLENEL SHAKES CONSCIENCES

In a poignant editorial on the Backseat show, Edwy Plenel, founder of Mediapart, delivers a profound reflection on the state of the current world. Entitled “Words fail me”, this column inaugurates his weekly participation in the show.

Plenel paints a dark picture of the crises shaking our times. From Gaza to kyiv, through sexual violence and economic inequalities, he points out the powerlessness of language in the face of horror and injustice.

The journalist criticizes the use of misleading rhetoric and the growing indifference to human suffering. He also denounces the rise of what he calls “illimitism”: a lack of restraint in the political, economic and ecological spheres.

Faced with these challenges, Plenel brandishes equality as a universal moral compass. He calls on everyone to “prevent themselves”, to exercise caution and listen, and to consider others in all our actions.

In a world where “the night wins”, the founder of Mediapart urges his listeners to become “candles in the dark”, illuminating the path towards greater humanity and justice.
