This is not the first time that a World War II bomb has been discovered in Germany. Forcing the authorities to take drastic measures.

A city spokesperson said that around 1,300 people would be mobilized for the operation, including police officers, firefighters and volunteers. According to local authorities, this is the most complex evacuation of this type in Cologne since 1945.

Two of the three hospitals were already evacuated on Wednesday and Thursday, the City reported. In total, this represents around 640 patients. Most of them were transferred to other establishments.

The 1,000 kilo bomb was discovered on the construction site of a new health campus.

Mine clearance operations are commonplace in Cologne, the city having been one of the most bombed during the Second World War.
