Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced Thursday evening in Rome, after a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, that Italy would host the next conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine in July.
“Ukraine is not alone, and we will be at its side as long as necessary,” Giorgia Meloni assured the press, specifying that this meeting would take place on July 10 and 11, 2025.
Italy firmly supports kyiv in its fight against Russian forces, sending aid and weapons, while considering that the latter should only be used inside Ukrainian territory.
Difficult winter ahead
Giorgia Meloni explained that Rome’s support aimed to “put Ukraine in the best possible conditions to build a negotiating basis for peace, a peace that cannot be capitulation.”
Volodymyr Zelensky said earlier Thursday that a ceasefire with Russia was not under discussion with European allies and called for more Western support as a difficult winter approaches, during of a 48-hour trip which took him to London and Paris, before Berlin on Friday. On Friday morning, the president will meet with Pope Francis at the Vatican.
