the king “has recovered” from his lung infection, announces the royal court

This Wednesday, 88-year-old Saudi King Salman underwent examinations for lung inflammation and “recovered”announced the royal court in a press release taken up by state media. This announcement comes three days after the court revealed that the king was suffering from a lung infection and would undergo examinations.

“His Majesty (…) King Salman Ben Abdulaziz Al Saud”a “completed (…) his medical examinations for lung inflammation, and recovered”said the statement released by the official Saudi press agency SPA. King Salman has been on the throne since 2015, and his son Mohammed bin Salman became first in line of succession in 2017. He is the de facto ruler of the kingdom.

On Tuesday, the crown prince “reassured everyone about their health” of the king and expressed his “gratitude to all those who inquired about his health”according to the SPA. The royal palace revealed in May that the monarch was suffering from a lung infection, a high temperature and joint pain and was undergoing treatment with antibiotics. He then indicated that he was feeling better.

The last government meeting that King Salman chaired was on September 24. Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest exporter of crude oil, generally avoids talking about the king’s health.
