Hezbollah says it repelled Israeli infiltration attempt in southern Lebanon border town

AA / Beyrouth / Wassim Seifeddine

The Lebanese group Hezbollah said on Tuesday that its fighters had repelled Israeli troops trying to infiltrate the border town of Al-Labuneh in southern Lebanon.

According to Hezbollah, Israeli forces were attempting to enter the city by passing behind the positions of UN peacekeeping forces (UNIFIL) in the area.

The Lebanese group claimed that its fighters confronted Israeli forces with “appropriate weapons,” causing several casualties among Israeli soldiers and forcing infiltrated troops to retreat.

Israel has launched large-scale aerial bombardments across Lebanon against what it said were Hezbollah targets since September 23, killing more than 1,250 Lebanese and injuring 3,618 others, in addition to displacing more than 1 .2 million people.

The aerial bombardment campaign marks an escalation in the year-long cross-border war between Israel and Hezbollah, following Tel Aviv’s deadly offensive against the Gaza Strip, which killed nearly 42,000 people, the majority is mainly made up of women and children, since the attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on October 7, 2023.

At least 2,083 people have been killed and 9,869 injured by Israeli attacks on Lebanon, according to Lebanese authorities.

Despite warnings from the international community that the conflict would push the Middle East region to the brink of regional war over Israel’s relentless attacks on Gaza and Lebanon, Tel Aviv still expanded the conflict by launching a land invasion of southern Lebanon on October 1.
