American tourist eaten by shark while on vacation in Indonesia

A vacation in the sun turned into a tragedy. The remains of a sixty-year-old woman were discovered in the belly of a shark this Sunday, October 6, around the island of Pulau Reong, in the Moluccas. These are probably those of an American woman who disappeared at the end of September during her stay in Indonesia, reports the American press.

According to the story of our colleagues, Colleen Monfore, 68, was in the middle of a diving session with six friends when she found herself in difficulty in strong currents. Unfortunately, the guide who accompanied the group of tourists failed to bring her back to the boat, and the vacationer disappeared into the seabed.

Although the emergency services combed the area for eight days, they finally had to resign themselves to abandoning their search. But this Sunday there was a twist: a fisherman from East Timor – a territory neighboring Indonesia – discovered mysterious remains of a human corpse in the belly of a shark.

The beast “was captured but was not in normal condition. I thought she had swallowed plastic or a fishing net. We opened it to understand what the problem was and inside there were the remains of a woman,” explained this man, quoted by the “Mirror”.

While the body has not yet been formally identified, the black diving suit found on the body matches the description of the sixty-year-old, originally from the state of South Dakota. At this stage, East Timorese authorities have indicated that they are in contact with the Indonesian coast guard and have further appealed for information on anyone with missing friends or relatives.
