The verbomania of the head of Algerian diplomacy at the United Nations, Monday September 30, was to die of boredom. Segments of a boring speech: “We say no to the law of the strongest, but yes to the force of reason”, “The multifaceted and fronted Israeli escalation in the region would not have happened without the international community’s laxity in taking a firm stance in a timely manner”, “The plans that the Israeli occupation is developing to derail the two-state solution pose a real threat to the security and stability of the region.” Regarding the $720,000 contract with the pro-Israeli lobby, nothing will transpire, confidentiality requires.

On the question of the Sahara, same antiphon: Algeria “defends a political solution guaranteeing the Sahrawi people their inalienable right to self-determination”, “Colonialism (sic) in the Sahara is doomed to disappear, no matter how long it takes, the legitimate rights of the Saharawi people will find their way to their realization sooner or later”, “Algeria will not accept any attempt to impose a fait accompli, Algeria will continue to support the rights of the Sahrawi people.”

Deadly monotony!

Concerning the situation in Libya and the Sahel, there is also an invariable litany: “Accelerate the fight against foreign interventions which exhaust the country’s resources and deepen divisions between its inhabitants”, “Algeria supports the Libyan people in their quest to organize free elections and reach a national consensus which paves the way for the construction of a united and stable Libya”, “The security and stability of the Sahel are an integral part of the security and stability of Algeria and North Africa.”

During his speech before the United Nations General Assembly Ahmed Attaf criticized the statements “vile” issued by a representative of a neighboring state (Mali) describing these remarks as “unworthy words” which do not suit the stature of the United Nations. He affirmed that Algeria “will not allow himself to be led by such assertions.”

To conclude, agreed formulas, formatted stories, sanitized declarations: “Algeria is making constant progress towards strengthening political and institutional stability, within the framework of the approach established by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune”, “Algeria strives to build a strong and diversified national economy, reducing dependence on the hydrocarbon sector and strengthening the social character of the Algerian state”, “Despite the difficulties and dangers that threaten our world, we believe that hope remains, and that the ambition for a better future is still within our reach. Out of crisis comes opportunity, and out of adversity comes hope.”
