Hurricane Helene: Augusta National would have been affected and the damage is to be assessed

The Augusta National Golf Club is currently assessing the damage caused by Hurricane Helene on the legendary golf course, the club said in a press release published Saturday morning.

Although Augusta National President Fred Ridley’s statement said Helene had a “catastrophic and historic impact” on the city of Augusta, it did not reveal any details about how the club could have be hit by the storm.

However, images are circulating on social media showing trees that have fallen on the land.

“Our community of Augusta suffered the catastrophic and historic consequences of Hurricane Helene. We are currently evaluating the effects at Augusta National Golf Club, Ridley said. In the meantime, our focus and efforts are first and foremost on our staff, neighbors and business owners in Augusta. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and all those affected in Georgia and the Southeast. »

More than 40 people died from the storm, which caused “catastrophic and historic flooding” in parts of the southern Appalachians, according to the National Hurricane Center. Helene made landfall in the Big Bend area of Florida on Thursday as a Category 4 storm. NBC News reported that about 4 million people are without power because of the storm, and there are fears the outages could last for weeks.

Photos from around Augusta show damaged structures caused by fallen trees and power lines. The National Weather Service reported hurricane force victories at Augusta Regional Airport, and the area was also hit with heavy rain.
