The government of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer experienced its first resignation on Saturday, MP Rosie Duffield leaving the Labor Party which she accuses of “blatant hypocrisy” in the controversy over the gifts received by several of its members.

In her resignation letter, reported by the Sunday Times, Rosie Duffield also criticizes Keir Starmer for “cruel and unnecessary” political choices.

“The sordidness, the nepotism and what looks like avarice are limitless,” she adds after the revelations about gifts accepted by Keir Starmer for more than 100,000 pounds sterling (112,490 Swiss francs) at a time when his government chooses to restrict energy checks for millions of retirees.

“Expensive personal gifts”

She also criticizes him for his decision to maintain the ceiling on a family allowance for two children.

“When we have much more than the average and we choose to maintain the two-child limit set by the Conservatives for the payment of benefits, which locks children into poverty, while inexplicably accepting expensive personal gifts, designer suits and glasses, costing more than most of these people can imagine, we absolutely do not deserve the title of Labor prime minister,” she asserts.

She announces that she will now sit with the independents “guided by her true Labor values”.
