In Luxembourg: The Pope’s visit, hell for public transport

We had already warned you that you would have to organize yourself to come to work in the City during the Pope’s visit on Thursday. In addition to cars that will no longer be able to circulate from 9am, public transport services will also be impacted. RGTR, City buses, school lines, tram… It will be complicated to get around.

Buses 601, 604, 605, 606, 607, 608 and 609

Not all of these lines will go into the city. The buses will start and end their journey at the Stade de Luxembourg stop. The stops Schaarfen Eck, Cloche d’Or, Stengege Wee, Gaasperecher Bierg, Aciérie, Heentze Park and Monterey are cancelled in both directions.

Buses will start and end their journeys at Stäreplaz, or Star Square. The Monterey stop is removed.

Buses coming from Limpertsberg will be diverted via the Schuman roundabout, via the Boulevard de la Foire and the Route d’Esch before returning to their usual route.

They will follow the same diversion as the previous lines. Their terminus will be at the bus station and the Hamilius stop will not be served.

Lines 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22, 31 and 33 will be affected by various changes throughout the day, depending on the movements of the sovereign pontiff. As the city centre is closed from 9am, buses will not run there. Details of the changes for each line are available on the City of Luxembourg website, which will also announce the changes in real time.

Although the tram will run all day, its traffic will be adapted between 12:00 and 14:00, while the sovereign pontiff will be traveling in the popemobile. The tram will then run on two sections, between Hamilius and Luxexpo and between the train station and the Stade de Luxembourg. Traffic will be suspended on the Hamilius-Gare Centrale section and the stops at Place de and Place de will not be served.

The park and ride facilities will be open and the City of Luxembourg advises users to use them. Trams and buses connect them to the city centre.
