Michel Barnier’s government is marked by the right: discover the names of the new French ministers

The Secretary General of the Elysée, Alexis Kohler, has announced the composition of Michel Barnier’s government.

Former socialist MP Didier Migaud has been appointed Minister of Justice.

The leader of the LR senators, Bruno Retailleau, is appointed Minister of the Interior.

MoDem Jean-Noël Barrot is appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and Europe, Sébastien Lecornu reappointed to the Armed Forces

Catherine Vautrin has been appointed Minister for Partnership with the Territories and Decentralization.

Macronist MP Anne Genetet is appointed Minister of National Education.

MoDem Geneviève Darrieussecq is appointed Minister of Health and Access to Care.

Macronist MP Astrid Panosyan-Bouvet has been appointed Minister of Labour and Employment.

Laurence Garnier, initially tipped to be the Family Minister but whose campaign against same-sex marriage sparked a backlash in Macron’s party and on the left, has been appointed Secretary of State for Consumer Affairs, the Elysée Palace announced on Saturday.

The mayor of the port city of , Fabrice Loher (UDI), is responsible for issues relating to the sea and fishing as a delegate minister in Michel Barnier’s government.

Fabrice Loher, 57, is placed under the authority of the Minister for Partnership with the Territories and Decentralization, Catherine Vautrin.
At the head of a coalition of the right and the centre, Mr Loher had in 2020 snatched Lorient from the left, a socialist stronghold since 1965, the town of Jean-Yves Le Drian (1981-1998), after three unsuccessful candidacies in the municipal elections in 2001, 2008 and 2014.

Dupond-Moretti is not reappointed

Former Socialist MP Didier Migaud was appointed Minister of Justice on Saturday, replacing Eric Dupond-Moretti, in the government of the new Prime Minister Michel Barnier, announced the Secretary General of the Elysée Alexis Kohler.

A veteran of politics and government service, Didier Migaud is an expert in budgetary issues: he chaired the Court of Auditors for ten years before ensuring the probity of elected officials at the head of the High Authority for Transparency in Public Life (HATVP). Among the members of the Barnier government, Didier Migaud is the only one to come from the left, even though he left active politics in 2010.

A “new disaster movie”

The leader of the radical left, Mélenchon, calls for “get rid of it as soon as possible” of the new government just announced. “The casting of the new Macronist disaster film is known. The government of the losers of the legislative elections is in the hands of the worrying Minister of the Interior”LR Bruno Retailleau, he estimated.

For his part, RN leader Jordan Badella indicated that the Barnier government “has no future”.

Meeting Monday

“The President of the Republic will bring together all members of the government for a Council of Ministers which will be held on Monday, September 23 at 3 p.m.”declared the Secretary General of the Elysée Alexis Kohler after detailing the composition of Michel Barnier’s government.
