No less than 488 golden retrievers gathered in the Highlands of Scotland to celebrate 155 years of the dog breed on the very spot where the very first is said to have originated.
“Every couple of years, say every 5 year old, we commemorate the Golden Retrievers by inviting everyone to come here. A week-long event just to commemorate the birth and establishment of this fabulous breed that is the Golden Retriever,” Tom Gorrian, chairman of the Golden Retriever Club of Scotland, told the BBC last week.
Lovers of dogs, and golden retrievers in particular, got their money’s worth as 488 animals from across the map gathered last Thursday at the ruins of Guisachan House in Glen Affric, Scotland, where the very first is believed to have been born.
To do this, golden owners from the United Kingdom but also from all over Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia and even Japan, would have flown to join the event, according to what the British media reported.
In order to capture an iconic photo of the herd, the masters would have been called upon to attach their dog’s leash to a stake in the ground, before abandoning them for only 15 seconds, reported the New York Times.
Except that it didn’t take much for the horde to start yelping in heart, feeling abandoned by their masters only a few meters from them.
This edition of the gathering of golden retrievers in Scotland was the largest to date, according to the American media.
